The Unexpected Gift Of Going With the Flow

Sometimes the most magical things happen when we stop trying to follow the plan.

Today didn’t unfold the way I originally imagined it would. But instead of fighting the change, I chose to go with the flow… and something wonderful came from it.

A few days ago, I harvested cedar and began making bundles. I had an idea of what I wanted to create, but the cedar — and a little imagination from my granddaughter — had another plan.

While I was working, she looked at the cedar and asked, “Can we make dolls out of it?”

And so the first Wyrd Folk were born.

Made from cedar, thread, and a hidden heart stone, each one began to take shape in its own way. We didn’t decide who they would be ahead of time. We made them first, then listened for what they carried inside.

Each Wyrd Folk received a stone heart, tucked safely away in their chest — a small reminder that the most important parts of us are often the ones we cannot see.

Already, they are beginning to show us who they are.

One little fellow with a red agate heart stood out right away. As I built him, I felt like I already knew him. He feels like the one who gathers everyone around the fire, tells the best stories, remembers every name, welcomes newcomers, and always seems to know where the interesting things are happening.

His name is Boris.

The others are still quietly revealing themselves, waiting until the right moment to share their stories.

Today reminded me of something important: when we spend all our energy trying to force a day, a plan, or a path to look exactly the way we imagined, we can miss the unexpected gifts waiting for us.

Sometimes the detour is where the magic lives.

Welcome to the beginning of the Wyrd Folk. 🌲✨
